This Subclass 187 visa allows skilled workers to permanently reside and live in Regional Australia.

What is a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Visa (Subclass 187)?

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Visa (Subclass 187) is part of the Permanent Employer Sponsored Visa program, which allows skilled workers to permanently reside and work in Regional Australia. ‘Regional Australia’ includes low population growth areas of Australia, and does not include the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong or Melbourne.

You can be in or outside of Australia when you apply for the Subclass 187 visa. If you are in Australia you must have a valid visa or a bridging visa A, B, or C.

There are three ways (streams) to be granted a Subclass 187 Visa:

  1. Temporary Residence Transition Stream – for holders of a Temporary Work Visa (Subclass 457)
  2. Direct Entry Stream – for those who have the required skills and qualifications for the position they have been nominated for
  3. Agreement Stream – for people sponsored by an employer through a labour agreement
