Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485

This temporary visa allows international students recently graduated from an Australian educational institution to work in Australia.

What is a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)?

The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) allows recent graduates from an Australian educational institution to work within Australia.

You can only apply for this visa if you are in Australia at the time of application, and hold a current eligible visa.

Family members who apply for this visa after the main applicant has been granted the visa may be in or outside Australia when they apply, but must not be in immigration clearance.

There are two ways (streams) to be granted a Subclass 485 Visa:

1. Graduate Work Stream
2. Post-Study Work Stream

Who would a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) be suitable for?

A Subclass 485 Visa through the Graduate Work Stream would suit you if:

• you wish to live, study further and work in Australia
• you graduate with eligible qualifications and skills relevant to an occupation on the current Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
• you only wish to work in Australia for 18 months
• you only intend to apply for this visa for the one time (as the primary applicant)
• are younger than 50 years of age
• you meet the two-year Australian study requirement
• you have at least competent English

A Subclass 485 Visa through the Post-Study Work Stream would suit you if:

• you wish to live, study further and work in Australia
• you graduate with eligible qualifications and skills relevant to an occupation on the current Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
• you wish to work in Australia for up to 4 years (time frame depends upon your qualification)
• your first student visa to Australia was applied for and granted on or after 5 November 2011
• you only intend to apply for this visa for the one time (as the primary applicant)
• are younger than 50 years of age
• you meet the two-year Australian study requirement
• you have at least competent English
